Australians are being encouraged this year to begin discussing their organ and tissue donation wishes with their loved ones and becoming a part of the Australian Organ Donor Register.
Everyone can become a donor including people aged in their 70s and 80s. This is a decision that you need to share with your family and friends because in the event of your passing, they will be asked about your donation decision before a donation for transplantation can happen.
It is easy to become an organ and tissue donor, all it takes is registering on line, it only takes a few minutes but can make the difference of a lifetime by saving lives of up to 10 people.
Organ donation is an amazing gift that is the only option for a longer life for a lot of people around Australia. While someone’s age and medical history are important no-one should assume they’re not suitable to give the gift of life.
