Petes Soup 1

Pete’s Homemade Soup Warms Hearts at Cumberland View Retirement Village

Long-term resident Pete, who has been part of our community for 14 years, has always had a keen eye for the needs of his fellow residents. Many years ago, during interactions within the village, Pete noticed that several residents often missed out on a good home-cooked meal due to various circumstances. Feeling a strong urge to help, Pete decided to reach out by offering homemade soup, a dish he enjoys cooking and finds easy to prepare.

This simple yet thoughtful gesture quickly grew into a beloved tradition. Pete’s passion for cooking led him to organize a Christmas lunch one year, and the rest, as they say, is history. Each year, Pete’s homemade soups have become more popular, with residents eagerly anticipating the warm, comforting meals he prepares.

Now, Pete’s soups are mostly made during the winter months, providing a perfect opportunity for residents to come down to the Hall and share a bowl of hot soup together. It’s a lovely experience that brings the community closer, fostering a sense of togetherness and support. Pete takes great pride in this task, knowing the positive impact it has on others.

Who doesn’t love a homemade bowl of soup, especially when it’s made with such care and compassion? Today, Pete served up 50 bowls of Carrot and Bacon soup, garnished with bacon and chili for those who enjoy a bit of spice.

Here at Cumberland View, we are truly blessed with warm and inviting residents who are always kind and supportive of each other. Pete’s initiative is a shining example of the community spirit that makes our village so special.

Let’s continue to cherish these moments and support each other, just as Pete has done for us.
