Cumberland View Aged Care Community Life: February Highlights

Life at Cumberland View Aged Care is shaped by the small moments that bring people together. Music drifting through the halls, friendly competition over a game, and time spent sharing stories all help create a community where residents feel connected and at ease.

February was filled with conversation, creativity and celebration. Residents gathered for music, games, cooking, crafts and special cultural events that brought people together across the home.

Music, Movement and Everyday Moments

Music has a way of bringing people together, and throughout the month residents enjoyed several lively sessions. Music with Eliza encouraged everyone to move to the rhythm, while Rhythm with Jose brought energy and percussion that filled the room.

Residents also welcomed back their much loved wandering minstrel during Barouch’s Wandering Music Sessions. Moving through the home with a variety of instruments, he stopped along the way so residents could sing along, share a laugh and enjoy familiar tunes together.

Between the music sessions, there was plenty happening across the home. Residents gathered for Carpet Bowls, Bingo, and a friendly Target Game, where concentration and good humour were equally important. There was also time for Cooking and Craft Activities, giving everyone the chance to create something with their hands while chatting with friends.

Valentine’s Day Afternoon Tea and Movie

February also brought a warm and thoughtful celebration with Valentine’s Day Afternoon Tea. Residents came together to share wedding memories, stories of long partnerships and reflections on the relationships that have shaped their lives.

The kitchen prepared a beautiful afternoon tea, complete with cakes and treats. Music from John D. set the tone for the afternoon, and residents were delighted when roses were shared around the room.

Later, everyone settled in for Valentine’s Movie Night – Sleepless in Seattle, enjoying a relaxed evening with snacks, conversation and a well loved romantic classic.

Chinese New Year Celebration

The home was filled with colour and movement during the Chinese New Year Celebration. Residents enjoyed traditional decorations, lively dance performances and craft activities that reflected the cultural significance of the occasion. It was a chance to learn something new and celebrate together as a community.

Latvia’s Independence Day Celebration

Residents also marked Latvia’s Independence Day Celebration, sharing special treats and music throughout the day. Moments like these are a reminder of the many backgrounds and life stories that make up the community.

Music played an important role in the celebration, with residents singing and dancing along to performances from Margaret Dennis and Lorenzo. Their music brought people together and kept the room lively from start to finish.
