What a wonderful spring it’s been at Cumberland View! As the weather warmed and the gardens bloomed, we filled our days with music, laughter, delicious food and cherished moments with friends old and new. From milestone celebrations to exciting outings, live entertainment to special visitors, this season has been packed with joy and connection.
Musical Moments and Live Entertainment
Spring brought a wonderful array of musical performances to our home. We were treated to soothing harp recitals by Susan Graham, energetic performances from guitarist Alex Matthews, and delightful concerts featuring talented students from Wheelers Hill College and Caulfield Grammar.
The entertainment continued with engaging performances from Doug D’Rose, The Golden Girls’ spectacular 60s celebration, Max the Magician’s amazing tricks, and our walking minstrel Baruch who charmed us all with music and song. Lorenzo’s concert and the beautiful voices of the Skylarkers and church choir helped bring the festive spirit alive as Christmas approached.
International Flavours and Special Celebrations
Our international cuisine programme took us on a culinary journey around the world. September featured a vibrant Mexican celebration complete with traditional fare to mark Mexican Independence Day, whilst November brought traditional American Thanksgiving delights including hot dogs.
The spring season was marked by significant celebrations including:
Father’s Day with Ricky “Elvis” entertaining our special Dads with gifts and performances
A spectacular 110th birthday milestone celebration attended by family, friends, the Mayor of Monash and Channel 7
Grandparents Day honouring our beloved Nans and Pops
A colourful Diwali festival with dancing and music
Spooky Halloween festivities that brought out everyone’s playful side
Spring Racing and Sporting Spirit
The excitement of spring racing carnival swept through our home with our own fashions on the field competition and Melbourne Cup sweep. The atmosphere was electric as we celebrated this iconic Australian tradition together.
The AFL season concluded with a grand footy tipping presentation, where over 50 of us celebrated a fantastic season together. Winners received prizes and trophies, whilst every participant took home a memento of the fun-filled competition. It was wonderful to see so many residents engaged in the excitement of the footy finals.
Special Visitors and Unique Experiences
We enjoyed heartwarming visits from furry friends throughout the season, including the adorable Milo who made regular appearances and brought smiles to everyone he met.
A true highlight was our horse therapy session, where Le Pine Glen Waverley brought two magnificent Percheron horses—one white and one black—for us to pat and feed carrots to. This joyful experience created lasting memories across all our terraces, with residents delighting in the gentle nature of these beautiful animals.
Our scenic ice cream express bus trip to Cardinia Reservoir provided another memorable outdoor adventure, combining beautiful scenery with the simple pleasure of enjoying ice cream together.
Community Connections
We continued strengthening intergenerational bonds, welcoming St Justin’s students who presented us with handmade Christmas cards as part of our intergenerational programme. The thoughtfulness and creativity of these young visitors touched our hearts.
Students from Jacinta’s School of Ballet enchanted us with their graceful performances, bringing the beauty of dance to our community. We gathered solemnly for Remembrance Day with friends and Mike Black from the RSL, honouring those who served.
Throughout spring, drumming classes with Jose kept our rhythm going, craft groups completed our collaborative peacock project showcasing our creativity, Men’s Group gatherings provided time for conversation and connection, and elegant High Teas in the dining room offered beautiful opportunities to gather with family and friends.
We also enjoyed regular activities including cooking sessions, chair tai chi with Chris, carpet bowls, and Friday happy hours that brought our community together in celebration and friendship.
